This triple barrel-aged barrel of DeJohnette is the first batch of barleywine that Private Press brewed. I marveled at the development of this barrel over 30 months, as new layers established themselves and the potency of the liquid grew with each new barreling. The most assertive of the single-barrel bottlings. Barrel #142 exhibits baking spice, vibrant caramel, vanilla pot de creme, dark sweet cherry, sarsaparilla, and dried orange peel.

Poured from a 8.4 oz bottle. Aroma is malt forward with loads of caramel and toffee. Lighter toasted bread, chocolate and burnt sugar notes. Light notes of raisin and prune. Moderately strong bourbon and alcohol notes with light oak. Pours dark brown with lighter brown hues on the edges with a small, thin, head that recedes to the edges where a few bubbles linger. No lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of caramel and toffee notes. Lighter notes of toasted bread, chocolate, burnt sugar and nuts. Light raisin and hints of prune. Moderate bitterness and moderately strong alcohol notes. Moderate bourbon character and light oak notes. Mouthfeel is full bodied with low, but some carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid barleywine. Really nice malt notes with some complimentary bourbon notes. Faint fruit notes and a bit of carbonation.
