Our homage to the cinema, film noir and thrilling espionage movies of years past. This is a thick dark imperial stout, with deep complex flavours of liquorice and roasted malts with the aroma to match. This delicious ale should be savoured slowly a few degrees below room temperature.

Bottle at my birthday drinks, thanks to Bruce. It pours near black with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, earth and light toast. The taste is roasted malt, toast, coffee, earth, chocolate, some dark fruit, berry and decent bitterness with a dry finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Smooth, mellow and well-balanced. Rather drinkable.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell during Paul’s Birthday Celebration - London. Thanks to Bruce for this Scottish impy stout. Pours clear, dark brown with a light, creamy beige head. Toasty brown bread in the nose, light milk chocolate, burnt marshmallows. Medium sweet flavor with nice, rich chocolate, lightly burnt earth bitterness, good roast. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Light bitterness to finish, some earth and burnt wood, baking cocoa, well-roasted malts. Good stuff. Solid all around.

Bottle from Appellation Wines - cheers Ash! Pours black with a good honeyish looking head. Lovely lacing. Nose is chocolate and roasted malts. Taste has more chocolate, some coffee. Long finish. Good, but lacks a certain something that would make it great.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines.Pours opaque black with a lovely generous fawn head - this reduces to a nice crema and hangs around. The nose has expected creamy dark chocolate. The taste has more of the same, a wee hit of alcohol and then liquorice on the finish. Overall the palate is a nice big structured but fairly elegant stout with persistence.

Pitch black, thin bubbly tan rim round glass, not much head, some lacing
Aroma of deep dark malts, dark plain chocolate, smooth nose, slight touch of alcohol
Taste of smooth dark malts, dark chocolate, touch of liquorice, hint of dark fruits, soft hops underneath, quite sweet chocolate, well balanced, alcohol quite well hidden. Not overly complex but very smooth, mainly quite sweet dark chocolate malts
Palate - Very soft carb, full body, smooth oily texture from the oats, milky smooth. Finish as main flavour, touch more alcohol, getting a hint of bitter cocoa in the finish
