Our homage to the cinema, film noir and thrilling espionage movies of years past. This is a thick dark imperial stout, with deep complex flavours of liquorice and roasted malts with the aroma to match. This delicious ale should be savoured slowly a few degrees below room temperature.

August 2014: Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Black colour, moderate tan head. The aroma is not impressive for an imperial stout, some unwanted "green apples" and "chemical" notes mask the expected roasty notes. Some liquorice in the background. The flavour is somewhat better than the aroma, lightly sweet with distinct roasty notes, some coffee and liquorice, but still not the best IS I’ve had.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry with mild fine carbonation. Dry dark malts with dry dark chocolate and a touch of marmite. A vague note of something cardomon like. Dry dark chocolate finish with mild tangy dark fruits. A tad dry and clunky but okay.

330ml bottle, trade with John R Murdoch (in Edinburgh, a year ago). Opaque dark coloured body topped by low tan-coloured head. Aroma of earthy malts and dark fruits. Dark malty flavours, hints of coffee and liquorice followed by a touch of malty sweetness towards the ending. Mostly integrated alcohol. Fine bodied. Nice, a tad too sweet though (shared with djoeye and Finn, Tromsø 16.07.2014).

Flaske 330ml. Spandert av Rune. Delt med ham og djoeye på Nerstranda 16 Jul 14. Svart. Lavt, litt farget skum. Svak fruktaroma. Smaken metallisk. Kaffe & litt lakris. Blir alt i alt for søt.

Bottle on the train from Inverness to Plockton, from Tomlinsons, 19/10/13. Light black with a moderate tan covering that retains as a pond. Nose is liqourice, dark toffee, dark fruit, light booze, cocoa. Taste comprises treacle toffee, tangy dark fruits, Xmas cake, molasses, brown sugars. Full bodied, fine carbonation, touch of booze in a sweetish finish. Ok drinkable impy but lacks any real depth or complexity for the ABV. Re-visit - Nah !
