Prairie Artisan Ales 3rd Anniversary Ale is a farmhouse ale brewed with raspberries that clocks in at 8.4% It pours a pinkish orange with a dense head of off-white foam. The color kind of made me think of peach fuzz. The aroma is funky sweet tarts with raspberries. Highly effervescent and soft bodied. The taste is seriously sweet, it tastes like those little powdery candies (sweet tarts or mini-fruit mints). Once that initial sweet hit passes you get some tart earthy raspberries. To me it is too sweet and kind of artificial in its sweetness but I guess that is just the interplay of the yeast and fruits. It's definitely interesting and unique though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The beer’s color is a mix of pink and deep tan, reminds me of dull ruby red grapefruit flesh. Medium sized off-white head. Gushed a little. Good retention. The aroma has a whole bunch of raspberry flavor. Mild farmhouse action underneath. Fairly jammy berries but already a little too sweet. Light funk. Woody note. Some doughy malt flavor. Mild lemon with a little bit of citrus and lightly tropical fruitiness. Taste is just too sweet. I can’t tell if it’s the berries or the malt, but it throws the beer off for me. There’s a medicinal tone. Some out of place bitterness. Much less berry flavor. Very light tartness. Not really artificial tasting but off and odd. Light to medium bodied with some creaminess. Odd astringency. Fairly disappointing.
