A MOSAIC-HOPPED ALE BREWED WITH MANGO

The flesh is weak, but the spirit is willing. So, what's at the heart of it? Is it the patient and diligent servant or the committed messenger, through their many routes and vessels? The salient soldier, slinging suds on the front lines daily, or the very brewers themselves? The answer is... we can't tell you here. From seed to sprout to fruit, and back to seed, we're all tangled on the same vine. And while fruit is momentary, the roots hold on for another season. It's all just a matter of perspective...

Bomber from Winco. Bright golden pour with a nice thick fluffy head that stays thick throughout, curtains of lacing, lots of fine very active carbonation. Aroma is purely in the mango category, crisp, ful, seems fresh. Taste is more of the juicy mango with a just a little bit of bitterness from the Mosaic that blends in perfectly with the fruitiness. Nice feel all around. Very pleasantly surprised

22 oz. bottle, now simply "Mozango." The mango is pretty upfront as I pop the cap. I pour it to kick up a big head of foam, which helps bring out more of the nose. It’s a pretty bright, clear orange color, what I’ll imagine lots of mango juice would look like. The foam is pretty sudsy and leaves remnants clinging to the side of the glass. The Mosaic hops, though, are what comes out first when I taste it. A lot of pine and a little bit of earthiness. Had I not smelled plenty of mango at the start, I might have thought the mango I was tasting was a part of the hop profile. So, this beer still has the hoppy bitterness you’d expect from a West Coast brewer. Yet the total package is pretty smooth and easy. I suspect the mango juice and elevated alcohol level are helping to mellow it out.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/22/2018. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge juicy mangoes, melon, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of mangoes, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big juicy mangoes, melon, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and slight fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy mangoes, melon, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of mangoes, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/sticky, fairly resinous/rindy, and slightly acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.7%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited DIPA! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of mangoes, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and pretty refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Outstanding balance of juicy mangoes and vibrant Mosaic hops, with some dank/earthy presence; nice pale/wheat/oat malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example.

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe at 7.7%. Pours clear brassy gold with a slight white head. Aroma is dank and tropical with definite mango. Med body at least. Flavor is somewhat dank, is a bit earthy, might have some passionfruit, but definitely has a lot of mango. Fairly dry, tho malt is detectable. More fruity than hoppy, but very nicely bitter. Interesting and pleasing ale.

Keg @ Trades Club, Hebden Bridge. Paler golden coloured with a head. Strong tasting, but not quite feeling its strength given there’s a decent mango flavouring in its tropical fruitiness, albeit a light one.
