Pomerol is a red wine appellation located on the right bank of the Dordogne River in Bordeaux.

This barrel had a blend of Cabernet franc and merlot prior to our fill, which has added delicious vinous & vanilla notes to the thick & unctuous imperial stout base.

4/6/2022. Can at the Teterow GP beer share. From Beer Guerrilla, Northampton. Pours black with a small creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits, wood, red wine. Medium sweetness, light to moderate bitterness. Medium to full body, sticky, soft carbonation. Good, but not best in series.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 06/08/21. Black with a good sized tan head. Nose is dark fruit rinds, spice, herb, liquorice, dates, nutty, light metallic nip. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, nutty twang, singed brown sugars, light roast, wooded tones, light ashen notes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced bitter sweet close. Decent ... interesting one ... quite earthy and understated ... carries a boost and never too sweet. Not sure where Kenny buys his tinnies from !

24th March 2021 Can. Opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. There is some glue and esters on the nose and they are not subtle. Airy smooth palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth and fairly mellow dark malts a touch of creamy dark chocolate. Gluey esters carry over from the nose. Some bright winey berries coming through towards the end, quite a developing savoury edge as well. Hmm. Not quite the crushing disappointment of the Fudge Brownie, but it's not far behind. Much to much with the glue. Take that away and you have a decent beer here. As it stands it's a bit of an uncomfortable quaff and much like the Fudge Brownie, I rapidly hit a ceiling of what I wanted to drink. Jesus, one of my absolute favourite series of recent years, throws up 2 relative duffer's on the bounce. WTF?! With hindsight, 3.0 is massively generous. I was on shock how far off course this stellar series had sailed. This was a fucking undrinkable mess that was riddled with the sort of glue fuckwits have always wanted to sniff. Awful.

Can from Hoptimism. Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Tan to fawn head. Nose - rich chocolate, dried fruit and wine barrels (literally the smell of a cellar with ageing wine in barrels). Taste - again, rich chocolate, then fudge and wood. Blackcurrant and prunes at the back. Palate - creamy texture, medium to full bodied. Lovely long linger. Elegant taper where wood note gives gentle cleansing of the palate. Overall - yeah, very elegant BA Impy.
