A historic saison style beer made with calendula and homegrown yarrow flowers yielding a hugely aromatic brew that’s dry and bitter. It’s an excellent aperitif and always ready about a month and a half after the first spring yarrow flowers.

750ml bottle from the Pacific Liquor store in PoCo. Vintage 2016. Pours a pale golden with a white head. Aroma is flowery, citrusy, some barrel and fermented fruits notes. Taste is pretty the same with accent on fermented fruits and barrel. Carbonation is moderate. Pleasant and refreshing.

Fles, 35 cl sample.

Bottle shared by Caesar. Clear pale yellow color, full sized fluffy white head. Aroma is malts and herbs or spices. Taste malts, herbs and spices again, coriander, herbal spicy bitterness. Ok body and carbonation. Well, objectively seen it’s a good beer with a solid herbal / spicyness, but it’s just not my thing.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is slightly acidic with moderate fruit notes of pears, tropical fruit, stone fruit and green grapes. Light citrus notes. Medium light herbal character with light phenolics. Light oak notes. A but of a honey and caramel malt note. Pours a golden copper color with a medium small, medium thick, white head that recedes to a small film that lingers thicker on the edges. Flavor has a medium light acidity with some light caramel and honey notes. Light oak notes with some medium white wine and green grape notes. Some light tannins. Moderate pear, tropical fruit and some fruit notes with hints of citrus. Light herbal notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but this bottle was a few years old and the age didn’t help it. I think it dulled some of the brightness that was likely present as a younger beer. I like the light acidity and fruit notes with background herbal and floral character.

Sampled at a tasting. Pale golden pour with a tiny white head. The smell is funky, floral, peachy, lemony, with a hint of basil. Tastes like grapefruit, citrus ad basil with a medicinal bitterness underneath. Dry and light bodied.
