Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn: pours black with a small head. Aroma is light chocolate and coffee with some herbs and some hints of funk. Taste is not very saisonesqu whatever that means. Some nice hoppiness giving it extra tang. Nice roasty aftertaste.

Bottle from the Brewery Dark brown with faint garnet at the edges, huge frothy tan head that persists forever. Roasty fruity light chocolate nose with plenty of yeasty esters. Fruity chocolate dipped fruit with a bit of warming alcohol in each sip. Somewhat of a cross between a dubbel and a saison imho. Alcohol is a bit too present as a spicy note for my tastes.

Stubby bottle that I purchased at Cigarette City, Seabrook, NH. The neck reads bottled December 2015. Thick lasting tan head that stayed until the completion. Aroma is mildly spicy yeast, notes of chocolate and light ash.

Flavor shows chalky chocolate, old coffee, burnt ash and a peppery yeasty spice bite. Finishes with more coffee, while also providing a light ash. Exhibits the spicy saison yeast throughout the sip, with a pretty nice support of roasted malt. The malt gives the body and mouthfeel like a stout. With the yeast and moderate amount of roast, reminds me more of a Belgian stout than anything else. This was a nice surprise.
