24-27/10/2023. From the wood at the 45th Norwich Beer Festival. Pours clear deep ruby red with a small bubbly/frothy off-white to beige head. Good pour. Aroma is woody, earthy, fruity, berries, toffee. Medium sweetness, medium plus bitterness, touch of drying tartness. Medium body, oily, average to soft carbonation. Sweet woody finish. Good.

Cask gravity at XT Members night Thursday 5th March 2015 Dark ruby-red, dry in the mouth, I get quite a fruity tanginess and with a solid malty backbone. I rather like the oakiness ageing it’s softened the edges and made this a bit drier. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Cask at the Reading beer festival. Deep amber. Chocolate, wood and a dry finish. As per the base beer this is decent, but I’m not sure that the oak aging has made any real impact. If anything, the dryness of the oak detracts from the richness of the underlying beer. A rare disappointment from XT; it’s still a good beer, just not quite up to the normal high standard of this brewery.
