Conjuring nostalgia can be an uplifting reminder of good old days - simpler times when we had unhindered ability to meaningfully connect with people. A remake of one of our stalwart recipes Mio is making a comeback, hopeful of engendering such fond memories. An ode to a classic Belgian Quadrupel, enriched with extensive barrel ageing, it retains classic caramel, toffee, raisin, spice, rose and phenol notes of a Quad. American oak barrels previously used to age bourbon add a veneer of vanilla and coconut notes, imparting final polish.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Tipple. Pours lightly hazed ruby-brown with a creamy, off-white head. Medium sweet flavour with notes of stewed berries, toffee, caramel, figs, dates, toasted malts, vanilla. Medium to full bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish, light woody dryness, more stewed fruits, toasted malts, mellow warmth. Quite nice.

Craft Beer Junction bottle share, thanks to Tips. Almost clear amber beer, small cream colour head. Very soft and airy palate, mildly dry, modest fine carbonation. Fluffy malts. Very cream and caramel. Flirting with diacetyl. Modest ripe fruits. Light finish. Not too bad.

Raisins and berries, lighter and thinner than I’d expected. Not getting a ton from the barrel
