Named after the Douglas Fir, native top to the Pacific Northwest, the Cascadian Dark Ale is brewed to impart a big punch of hops while maintaining the qualities of a dark ale. Chocolate & toasted marshmallow malt character lay the foundation to stand up to the big, piney, resiny, citrus hop character. Defined on both malt and hop character.

Tap. Pours deep black, medium creamy beige head, great lacing. Aroma is Grapefruit, pine, roast. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, a bit piney astringent. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Just misses the sweet spot of a black IPA.

Sampled from a bottle. Black color. Aroma has moderately roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is a blend of hops, bitter, dry malt and some more coffee here also good for a black ipa.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a hint of an amber hue and a chocolate brown that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces nicely. Aroma has some chalky dark grains with a bit of chocolate and a pine bite. Flavor has much more pine and grass with a backbone of dark grains and a bit of bitter chocolate.

Bomber thanks to Caleb. Pours a pure black color with a large beige head. A sweet nose of pine and light chocolates. The flavor leans toward the darker porter side with roast, dry chocolate and ash, caramel, light bitter pine and citrus. Very flavorful.

Pours a very dark, reddish-copper with minimal head. Aroma of roasted grains and hops. Flavor is dominated by the toasted grain, with strong hop undertones. This is a very nice (and very fresh) version of the black IPA.
