Can states 5.5%, not 6.4. Very restrained--too much so, really--with a light chocolate malt front accented by mild notes of cascara, baking chocolate, and cherry. Light-bodied and drinkable, but the lack of java roastiness or bitterness is apparent. Needs more oomph.

Draft at Angry James Brewery, Silverthorne, CO. Smells like a Tootsie Roll! Nice chocolate flavor with a little bit of light coffee flavor too. Okay. The 6.4 ABV is well hidden.

Taster at the brewery. Pours black, with a small, bubbly, beige head. The nose is smooth coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and burnt pine. Sweet and malty, with a sharp, pleasant bitterness. Medium body, with a creamy, slick mouthfeel. This is a solid coffee stout.
