Super dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, very fast-dying light brown coloured head that leaves nothing on top after just a few seconds. Aroma of earthy malts, a bunch of molasses, a good deal of anise and spices with a ton of sugars noticeable and a little bready and yeastie finish, but definitely showing more of an ale profile than that of a lager! Relatively full-bodied with a big malty flavour up front and a good deal of caramelised sugars and a toffee profile with some earthiness and a good deal of nuts, too, but pretty clean and showing nothing smoky, bitter, pungent or too robust. Aftertaste shows some deep sweet notes from pitted fruits, raisins, earthy, nutty malts with a lot of caramelised sugars throughout with a good complexity that once again shows much more of an ale than that of a lager. Overall, a very nice and robust doppelbock that has a great sweet profile with a lot of spices and nuts to further complicate the issue, in a good way. A great beer that is recommended if you find yourself here at the brewpub or wherever you can find it! I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at Fieldwork Brewery here in Napa, California on 11-March-2022 for US$8,00 sampled on my last day here in the state.
