Bottle. Black. Roast and licorice in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty, ashy flavor with salted licorice. Low on carbon.

Bottle. Color: Black, thin light brown head. Taste: Dark roasted malt, notes of black coffee and licorice. Sweet and bitter. Pretty harsh, notes of ash. Bit pricking on the tongue. Above medium to full body, just below average carbonation. Monotonous, lacking complexity. Definitely in the lower zone of the imperial stouts.

Sampled @ Pint Winterbierfestival Gouda, 2016. Opaque pitch black color, virtually no head. Aroma is malts, roast. Taste malts, roast, liquorice, but not as good as it sounds. Body is a bit thin and carbonation is low. Aroma is solid, but the flavor is a bit disappointing. Too bad.

Bottle sampled at Winterbierfestival Gouda. Black with small light brown head. Chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, light dried plums, roasted nuts. Over medium sweet and light bitter. Bit over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nice.

Thank you for sharing people! Sampled 3 times draft @ “Gouda Winterbier Festival 2016”. Blackish dark brown with no head. Nose is excessive varnish, booze, raw oak, syrupy, totally dominating everything else. Taste is flat, varnish, acetone, turpentine, sugar, coffee, molasses, syrup,…. Flat boozy sludge. Hugely messy, excessive in varnish notes, too low on carbonation. Not really successful for me. Salvable to a certain extent. Clearly the lesser of the 2 versions.
