[ As Wylam / Left Handed Giant Ctrl Alt Del ].Unclear medium red amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet malt, caramel, biscuit malt. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration, sweet malt, biscuit malt, malty. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20160318]

Keg at Ubrew, 07/05/16. Hazed amber with a decent off White head. Nose is toffee, biscuit malt, light spice, straw. Taste comprises earthy fruit, toffee, spice, biscuit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent.

Keg at the ubrew. Dark amber hazed coloured pour with a sticky beige head. Aroma is pale toasted grains, nutty malts, earthy hop notes. Flavour is composed of semi sweet nutty malts, assertive Nobel hop with a little earthy berry. Palate is medium bodied, highish carbonation, semi crisp fry finish. Good big alt.

On tap at the Nags Head, Reading. A cloudy chestnut brown pour with a thick cream head; aroma of caramel and burnt sugar; smooth in the mouth with a caramel taste, but not too sweet; then a lingering smooth nutty bitterness. This reminded me immediately of my first taste of Altbier - I was on a business trip to Germany and my German colleagues took me out one evening to a bar to watch an international football match - I forget who Germany were playing, but they won, which lead to a great atmosphere. Somebody suggested I try the Altbier, as it was "like English beer" - so I did, and drank it all evening. So this beer must be true to style , otherwise it wouldn’t have sparked those memories.

Keg at the Rake. It pours murky amber - brown with a medium off-white head. The aroma is brown bread, spicy, leather, wood, fruit cake, cereal and a hint of banana. The taste is crisp, bitter, quite spicy, wood, leather, dull toffee, banana bread, clove, grapefruit peel with a dry, spiced finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Not sure I would clock this as a Altbier, bit it’s pretty nice anyhow.

Bottle. Murky brown body with a thick beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of toffee, earth and brown bread. Flavour of caramel, lightly roasted malt and fudge. Medium body with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Light fizz. Rich and rewarding.
