Tap. Pours an opaque mahogany, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma of cocoa, cinnamon, chili pepper, sassafras root, , a bit of smoke, nutmeg, black licorice. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, medium chili spice, cocoa and cinnamon, a bit of smoke. Burned rubber? Chipotle. Anise. Marshmallow. Light plus body. Very complex, but it is kind of all over the place and doesn’t really come together.

Draft as part of a sampler at Fieldwork in Sacramento. Pours deep brown with a moderate brown head that is well retained. For the aroma I got a beautiful mint that married with chocolate well. The taste leaned to chocolate with a spice on the back end that was a little hot.

On tap in Berkeley. It pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma has huge cinnamon, hot pepper and chocolate. The flavor is very spicy and chocolaty smooth. Heavy cinnamon and hot pepper. Burning throat sensation lingers. Moderate sweetness with a thick body. A little too much heat for me, in a beer anyway. Could use a bit more roasted coffee. Wasn’t a big fan of this one.
