Black Diamond is quite a conundrum. Dark in colour, yet light in palate, rich yet refreshing, the looks of a Stout, but very much a Bitter, hints of dark malt, but with a blast of aromatic hops. Seeing isn’t believing - but tasting is!!

Cask @ Fly In The Loaf, Liverpool. Not black but a clear, and very dark red with a slightly off-white, small creamy head. This Black IPA has a decent smoothness and plenty of tropical fruits without being full bodied.

Cask @ Pine Marten, Dunbar [250913]
Dark brown. clear, dense off white head, good lacing
Aroma - Some citrus hop, roasted malts
Taste - Roasted malts, grassy bit herbal bitter hops, some lemony citrus, some bitter burnt roast, touch minerally
Palate - Fairly light body, bit oily, soft bitter roast palate. FInish - lingering fairly bitter roast, some light citrus, touch herbal, bit dry finish
Overall - Not bad at all, not really a black IPA - not sure about flavour of the hops here - it’s OK though

Cask on stillage at the Stag and Hounds, Binfield. An attractive deep mahogany colour with chestnut glint and a loose cream head; sour fruit aroma; soft in the mouth, and immediately bitter with a fruity body and a hint of licorice; then sweeter with some lingering hops to finish. Rather good.
