Recurring Dream is a very special, session strength edition of our Flagship Breakfast Stout, Broken Dream. It features the same indulgence of chocolate flavours and speciality malts, along with the creaminess of lactose for balance and mouthfeel. Espresso from London’s Climpson & Sons adds rich undertones of coffee.

330ml can from Asda. Dark brown with small beige head, some retention. Aroma of roasted coffee and malt, touch of liquorice. Taste of bitter coffee, a sweet treacle and blackcurrant, some cereal. Medium bodied, drying. Good.

(Cask at Craft Beer Clerkenwell, London, 16 Nov 2023) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, dark chocolate and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of fresh coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread, liquorice and a balanced coffee bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, with a rich coffee character. Nice one.

Draft at the Old Joint Stock, Birmingham as The Old Joint Stock Stout. Poured almost black in colour with a mostly lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, creamy caramel. The flavour is over moderate sweet, with a super smooth, roasty, chocolate, light coffee, lactose palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Tasty but a little too sweet for me.
