In our blonde beer we have created a beer that is designed to be uncompromising. We use mostly lager malt and a Czech hop variety Saaz. Saaz is the worlds most expensive hop, it is tricky to grow, has low yields and is low in alpha acid [the bitterness we get from hops]. It is an old variety...so why use it? Saaz is an aroma hop - it has a lot of delicate light hop oils which produce the hoppy, citrus nose, some even note pineapple. So very much a hop aroma but with a light delicate fruity overtone and the lager malt allows this hop character through to the fore. Our Blonde also greatly benefits from being brewed with pure soft mineral water - the fresh and clean upfront character of our Pale Ale is evident in our Blonde and the result of our pure water source.

Blonde is best served slightly colder than our other ales and is a continentally inspired blonde beer, light delicate, hoppy, subtle, and at 3.8% still very satisfying.

Cask at Leopard, Nantwich (not yet listed in RateBeer). Pours a chrome yellow with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma is grassy with traces of chestnuts and corn. In the mouth the texture is watery, with sweetmalt being the major flavour. There is also some hoppiness, plus butterscotch and scone dough undertones. There is slight bitterness in the finish. A generic style of beer, but quite well done.

On cask at Duke of York, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of diacetyl and bready malt. Flavour is similar, with lots of diacetyl, bready malt and subdued English floral hops. Too buttery. Not good.

On cask at Kidsgrove Athletic Football Club - Straw coloured body, lacing white head. Nose is quite floral and herbal, citrus is still there, as is a bit of grassiness. Taste is crisp and clean, a bit of citrus again, and a flowery bitter finish. Not bad at all.
