Skovlyst Stag Brew is a Barley Wine brewed at the family-owned La Goudale brewery. The beer is so strong that it almost slides into the world of wine in terms of taste, with notes of port and red wine.
Stag Brew is from 2016 and was our proud launch into the vintage universe, which is why we chose the king of the forest, the stag, as the first animal.

Large bottle from meny, caged and corked. Opened with a carbonation pop, but no spillage, color is clear chestnut brown, ligght brown head. Aroma is nutty and boozy, mild malty notes. Flavor is malty, cellary, syrupy dark fruity, sort of in the right direction of barley wine, but feels a bit like they used some spices or additives to get at this flavor, not fermentation and basic ingredients. I bought this bc i felt like tasting a classic strong barley wine, and i feel a bit out of luck, as it tastes like a very very strong ale or lager, perhaps a strong polish lager, and not so much like a classic strong barley wine.. If you don't like the maltiness and sweetness of barley wine you might like this one though...

75 cl bottle @ ISKTR’18
Aroma has sinol-like alcohol, some malt and corn. Flavour has alcohol, corn and pear esthers. Alcohol all the way, not sure what this is meant to be but I do not like it. Reminds me of some boozy lagers, the flavour has nothing to do with BW.

Bottle. Color: Dark ruby. Taste: Dark roasted malt, hints of resins, pretty sweet, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, fruity, hints of berries. Moderate hopbitter. Boozy, warming mouthfeel at finish. Medium body, below average carbonation. Lacking body and complexity. Ok Barley Wine, but not great.

Bottle 75 cl. Pours a clear nutty brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. Sweet caramel, somewhat oxidized feel. Rich body, low carbonation, fairly metallic, notes of dark dried fruits and brown sugar. Rather boozy finish. 261217
