Bottled. Deep ambery brown colour with some ruby notes too. The head is mediumsized and off-white, leaving some lace. Aroma is chocolate, mild toasted malts, some ripe fruits and mild resiny notes. Flavour is chocolate, some sweet dark malts, mild toasted notes as well as ripe fruits and some berries. Highly drinkable mild.

Clitheroe Beer Festival. Very dark brown with no head. Has a very light roasted aroma and taste and a thin texture.

Cask at the Pigs Ear BF 2012, London. Pours clear, dark red-brown with a light, tan cream cap. Dark, toasty brown bread in the aroma. Light sweet flavor with wimpy cocoa, faint dry and burnt wood. Light in body and fine of carbonation. Some dry, darkly toasted malts to finish, little else. Very drinkable stuff, though as is the case with so many milds it fails to bring much excitement to the fore.

The first beer in a ’Dunham Massey 4’ tasting evening held by me, for me in mid-April 2011. Brown 500ml bottle, best before Aug 2011: this is a bottle conditioned beer. Deep ruby red in colour, looks darker until you hold it up to a strong light source. An off-white head of tight bubbles sat on top. The aroma was semi-smokey, burnt malts and roasted barley notes. The taste wasn’t smokey at all, some burnt malt molasses maybe, but nothing to compare with the smell. I thought it a little thin and light bodied, even for a 3.85ABV Mild and if I’d drank it blindfolded it’d have said it was a light Mild, even with the smoked smells. The website say’s it is "based on the tradional North Western milds of old." Not too sure about that, but it lacked that little bit of something for me.

Bottle 500ml - Deep brown colour. Malt and coffee in the aroma. Quite a full flavour with roasted malts dominating. Bittersweet and quite light. Perhaps a bit on the thin side but a very good Mild.

Cask-conditioned at the Albion, Warrington, 21/1/09. Chestnut with reddish under tones and a decent, lacy off-white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, red fruit and a hint of roastiness. Sweetish aroma with plenty more fruit and a lingering, yet slight bitter finish. Good stuff.
