Collaboration with Braueri Schloss Eggenberg (Austria). Named to honor the Upper Austrian village of Pettenbach, this wintertime Bavarian-style Dunkel is malt-forward with notes of toasted nuts, light toffee and cocoa nibs—a perfect welcome for the holidays!

Reviewed from notes.
Can to becher glass.
Appearance: dark brown color with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head which settled off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: cocoa powder, dark fruits, subtle coffee roast, mellow sweet earthiness; tree bark/woody sweetness, very clean malts and a slight dose of toasted nuts
Flavor: melds the prior noted aromas to a mild sweet earthy/woody vibe to semi-dry toned roasty sweetness; finishes earthy to cocoa powdery sweet with a pinch of dryness
Texture: light to medium bodied, sessionable; awesome amount of smoothness with nothing distracting that smoothness, good carb level
Overall: what a beer! I would definitely return to this one

16 oz can from Beer Culture, 2/28/25. The pour is medium brown, slight reddish hue, tan head, light / drippy lacework. Caramel, pumpernickel, toffee, brown sugar, and a little milk chocolate. A little sweet, malty. Flavorful. Very smooth. Excellent overall.

Canned 11/20/24, drunk 1/3/25.
Clear dark auburn. Medium-sized, greyish-to-light-tan head.
Rich, warm, gooey, fresh-out-of-the-oven brown bread with honey, caramel, brown butter and good acidity from the yeast and darker malts. Yet no harsh roast or anything like that. Rich and satisfying. Mildly hoppy with appropriate, tasteful, herbal notes. Clean.
Rich, malty, soft and succulent. Bit of milk chocolate, caramel and lots of brown bread. Low toast/roast, not scratchy or overdone on specialty malts. Proper acidity on the finish with light mineral, moderate hop bitterness and herbal character. Balanced, drinkable and satisfying.

Pours deep mahogany-tinged brown into a dimpled mug. Mocha pancake head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Fig, date and roasted nut aromas. Medium bodied with sweet molasses, fig, date and raisin brown bread upfront turning to earthy cocoa-dusted pumpernickel in the dry, lasting finish.
