473mL can. Pours black with light beige head. Light toasted malt and wood on the nose. Flavour has roasted malts, burnt toffee, wood, and some cognac. On the lighter side for the body. Subtle and complex, nice.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark brown colour, near black. Aroma of dark chocolate, cacao, mild vanilla and tobacco. Light body for the style and era, some cacao, dark chocolate, and alcohol, but the body and sweetness are not really up to modern standards, nor it has a deep character like some old style one. It's ok.

16oz @ Ryan's shared with Faress and Alex (thx for the beer, dude!). Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: artificial chocolate, some roasted malt. Taste: roasty, some grass notes, somewhat harsh and aggressive. Overall: meh.

473 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with moderate tan head. Aromas of roasted barley, a bit of lactose, and creamy chocolate. Light flavors of chocolate, possibly some oak and more roasted barley. Clean but light for an Impy.

473mL can, pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose brings out toasted malt, very subtle oak, and a touch of oak. Flavour is smooth, bringing notes of wood, toasted malt, and yes, a hint of cognac. Light-bodied for an 8% stout, but has some nice delicate flavours that work together subtly and open up with more time and as it warms. This one exceeded my expectations.

They had an impy years ago; not sure what relation (if any) this beer has to that one. Dark brown, thin head. Soft molasses, bourbon, chocolate, some toasted malts in there as well. Lighter body but not bad for 8% and there's decent sweetness to it.
