Our traditional English Bitter, named after the thriving ‘Angel Inn’, so renowned that in 1901 the tube station was actually named in its honour. It’s remarkable to think that from the fifteenth century until 1965, only a stone’s throw from this very site, the Angel was brewing and serving its famous Bitter.

Cask at the brewpub - London. Pours clear, bright gold with a foamy white head. Simple toasted biscuits in the aroma with mild twiggy aspects. Light sweet flavor with toasty grass bitterness and grainy bread. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. OK balance to finish with bitter grass and toasted grains. Simplistic session cask gear but just fine nonetheless.

Cask at B&K, Islington on 25th October 2014. Copper with thin off-white foam and initial lacing. Malty, herby aroma. Crisp leafiness in-mouth with "warmth" of maltiness. A bittersweet finish. Zingy mouthfeel and medium body.

Cask at the Brewpub. Lightly hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and dry with mild fine carbonation. Smooth dry pale malts. Dry and slightly bitter floralness. Thin citrus, also bitter. Light dry finish. Bitter floral linger. A thin and bitter golden that isn’t doing it for me.

Cask at the brewery. Golden orange coloured pour with a fleeting white head. Aroma is nutty caramel malts with a light spicy hop. Flavour is caramel nutty malt, tea bag, light staling. Palate is some staling light lowish carbonation. Tasty enough.

Cask at the Brew pub during my 40th Shenans, 11/10/14. Clear golden with a moderately appointed off white covering. Nose is orange, straw, citric peel, light bread dough. Taste comprises much the same, rather bland, citric peel and grass. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. So so affair.
