WEST COAST DOUBLE IPA, 10th Anniversary Release

We’re turning TEN!! To celebrate the past decade we’re going back to a popular beer style when we first opened. A big 10% West Coast Double IPA brewed with Pilsner Malt and way too much Simcoe, Amarillo, and Centennial Hops. It’s piney, citrusy, dank, bitter, and crystal clear.

A special thanks to our friends at Brew Culture and Lallemand for collaborating with us on this special release.

473 ml can. Pours a dull amber with moderate head. Aromas of piney hops, citrus, pineapple, and soft bready malts. Flavors follow same with emphasis on pine plus doughy malts. Nice bitter finish. Good.

Pale orangey colour and fairly hazy. Just a bit of head. Orangey hops are past prime -looks like this one's been out a while and I just missed it. Lots of bitterness, alcohol, orange, pine, biscuity and slightly crystal malts. Pretty good but would have been a few points higher in winter.

Blond colour, clean, warm and bright. Powerful aroma, PNW citrusy hops, sharp pine. The mouthfeel is bold but lean, there is little sugars to talk about, the alcohol is upfront, but it seems to be suitable; bready malts, toasted corn; and the hopping is exactly as expected: strong, piney, with a big bitterness punch; there may be a slight buttery note, but I'll chalk it up to things that happen in a beer (like they happen in Chardonnay), and a style that we don't see much around anymore, rather than talking about diacetyl; the finish is not very clean.
Honorable effort.

On tap at Steamworks - Mt Pleasant, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out tropical fruits, some gummy bears, and plenty of resinous hops. Flavour has a lot of hops, with stone fruits, gummy bears, and resinous hops. Fruity, resinous, and lightly malted. Decent.
