Waterloo is a chestnut ale with a crisp hoppy finish. The aroma hop, Hallertau Blanc, was only released in 2012 and we’ve not used it before. It has a bold and fresh profile and will contribute gooseberry, lemongrass and passionfruit character similar to a glass of its namesake Sauvignon blanc.

Cask at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe. Deep amber with an off-white head. Earthy bitterness with some caramel and nutty malt. Normally I like Rebellion’s monthly specials but this one’s rather disappointing.

Sampled at the brewery. An attractive shiny chestnut colour with a dense cream head; simple malty aroma; sweet and nutty taste with some spice; and then a dry spicy bitterness leading to a nutty caramel finish. I didn’t pick up on the Hallertau Blanc hops at all, this seemed a rather basic chestnut bitter to me.
