Cask half pint at the New Inn, Gloucester. Served a tad too warm. Copper to brown colour, minimal head, slightly off-white. Nice lacing. Malty aroma with hints of toffee, some fruit. Malty flavour, nutty notes, a hint of caramel but not really sweet. Definitely drinkable, but not great.

Cask at Great Expectations, Reading, for just £2.65 a pint. Light caramel up front and a little malt. Slightly slimy mouthfeel. The hops add a slight bitterness and not much else. Tastes like a budget bitter produced without love or indeed any thought other than the cost. Which is, I expect, the case. Drinkable and that’s it.
