The beer is black, wall to wall. The head is smallish and light brown. A little bit of lacing. Aroma is big on chocolate and coffee. It’s a rich and fruity coffee aroma. Lots of milk chocolate with decent depth. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the aroma for me. It’s fairly sweet with moderate roast. Medium bitterness. Good dose of coffee. Light milky chocolate. Smooth feel. Roast in the finish.

[2/13/15] Draught at Sante Adairius Rustic Ales in Capitola. Black with a brown head. Aroma of roast, coffee, some liqueur and a licorice note. Bittersweet roasty flavor with some coffee and a burnt bitter finish. Nice full body.

Tap. Pours dark hazy brown, small tan head, decent lacing. Aroma is coffee, molasses, black strap. Flavor is light sweet, medium bitter, roasty, molasses, coffee, a bit of anise, borderline rubber. Lightish body for style. Lingering bitter coffee.

On tap at Sante Adairius, pours black with a tiny beige head. Aroma brings out notes of coffee upfront, followed by honey and some roast - definitely a coffee bomb. Flavour brings out more of the honey upfront, with the coffee following and subdued notes of roast. Too much honey in there for my taste, but it's a nice concoction nonetheless. Solid stuff.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is fairly coffee forward with some light chocolate and roast notes. Hint of sweet honey and caramel. Low fruit esters. Pours a dark brown with a moderately thick dark tan head with pretty good retention. Good lacing and small legs. Flavor is similar to aroma with coffee being most prevalent but the honey adding a nice flavor contribution and complimenting sweetness. Some light chocolate and moderate roast. Medium low bitterness and a some roasted notes round out the beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. A slight smooth silkiness makes this go down easy. Overall another good beer from SARA. I would have liked to try this beside Joe Chavez to see which I preferred. While the honey note is light it does add some character.
