Golden brown but a little dull. Thick head. The aroma is toasty. Sweetish brew - surprising given the sticke-like IBU count - with caramel notes. And a touch of diacetyl - something that has no business being anywhere near an alt. But then, this isn’t really an alt, and has no such character. "Alt" isn’t German for "Amber".

On tap at Yaletown, pours a hazy copper with a small beige head. Nose is light, with toasted malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with toasted bready malt, light cereal notes and grass. Nice balance of flavours that deliver a decent punch relative to style. Good stuff.

Draught at the brewpub
Beautiful dark amber color with beige creamy head. The aroma is lightly yeasty. The mouthfeel is rather dry in the front, smoother later; the malts are a bit too toasty, and that leads to some chicory-like bitterness in the final. It has some fruity esters. Not enough body, not enough malt-caramel; hardly an Altbier.
Nice beer.
