On tap. Pours a dark brown/mahogany with light head. Aromas of nuts, dark sugar and wet toasted malts. Flavors of bready roasted malts, wet bread crusts, more nuts and sugary dark fruit. Right on style but not too inspiring.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts and dry bready malt. Flavour brings out sweet bready malt, almost like English, toffee and dark fruits. Rather dull, with a flat palate. Not so interesting.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Dark brown color with small compact head. Some aroma of apples, not a good sign: acetaldehyde. Lean body, smooth mouthfeel, some dark caramel flavor and moderate sweetness, but not enough depth, and getting thin, almost empty in the final; the alcohol is perceived more than it ought to be at this strength.
Why brewing a Doppelbock and not even aiming at the regular strength?
Timid beer.
