Our first batch of this beer debuted in 2012. The label may look a little louder, but the recipe still embraces the same bold citrus and pine hop notes finding balance with a robust, sweet and toasted malt backbone.
Double dry-hopped. Louder.
A wide range of specialty malts anchor the hops in this Imperial Red Ale, contrasting the assertive bitterness & juicy aromatics with a robust, toasty depth of flavor.
Fermented with Bell’s signature house ale yeast, This One Goes to 11 Ale finishes with a lingering warmth.

Bottle. Orange malt and light citrus peel aroma. Amber with small head. Very sweet orange and strongly bitter orange peel flavor. Sweet and hoppy.

Finally just decided to jump in and have a bottle for myself, at 11% you taste virtually every single ABV in the brew. Aroma is raw hop character, definately some pine comes out on this one, with some citrus character to it. Alcohol burn in the back of the throat makes this one less pleasant than it could have been had they not tried to get this to 11.

12 oz bottle generously given to me by Scotter. Batch 11,000 bottled on 09/13/12. The pour is a hazed orange copper with a one inch light tan head. The aroma is straw floral hops, with a nice resin and caramel malt presence underneath. Nice, fresh and full nose. The taste is the strong resin hop character right away, harshly bitter, along with a strong caramel malt flavor that turns quickly to a hotly sweet alocohl burn in the finish. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and the sweetly hot, metallic, slightly oily finish. Thanks for this one Scott, I had wanted to try it.

Brick Red with a mid-size head. Rather fruity with plenty of malt sweetness, cherries, biscuit malts. Full bodied. Finish is long and sweet with a hefty dose of bitterness. Very much a sipper but quite an enjoyable one.

12 oz. bottle, sent from khoffman43 (thanks a lot, Kyle), pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Nose is both very hoppy and malty, with loads of fruity sweet resinous hops and big sweet caramel malts - maltier than a IIPA typically is, probably due to the 11%. Flavour starts with citrusy and grapefruity hops, transitions to tropical fruits and candied sweet caramel malts, shifting back to the bitter hops, which leave a very pleasant astringency along with some fruitiness on the finish. A bit too sweet and malt-heavy for a IIPA for my tastes - something doesn't mesh right here. Decent stuff, but quite flawed.

Bottle. Piney orange hops and caramel aroma. Copper with a large tan head, nice lacing. Resinous piney hops, orange, pineapple, sweet burnt caramel malt, and alcohol flavor. Medium to full sticky body, with a bit of alcohol warmth. Big robust beer.

Bottle pour into pint. Clean red/gold color; small, quickly fading head. Big nose: fresh cherry and tropical fruit. Taste: tangy cherry, orange. This is quite a sipper. Drinking from a fresh 6-pack; not sure that I will have any to save to see if the flavor mellows with time.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a clear amber color with a thin frothy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big hops... resin, citrus, berries. Well balanced toffee malts. The taste is tart fruits, resin and citrus hops and toffee malts. A faint bit of earth and an anise-like herbal note that is very mild. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a nice head and aromas of pine and tropical fruit. Flavor is boozy and hoppy. A nice resin bit up front that transitions into a tropical fruit medley of passion fruit, papaya and mango with a little apricot or something a little unique. It’s hot and a little rough around the edges, but a very solid offering nonetheless. The hops come out more as it warms and the booze seems to dissipate a little.
