Frank Appleton started it all. He dreamt up, then engineered and built BC’s very first Craft Brewery, the Horseshoe Bay Brewing Co. He then went on to build numerous other breweries, imparting wisdom to a generation of would-be brewers on how to become Brewmasters, Sean Hoyne included. So please, let us all raise a glass to Mr. Frank Appleton, and say, Thanks!

Poured from 650mL bottle. Clear copper with full off-white head. Bread malt, mild dry hops, good balance.

On tap. Pours a mahogany color with moderate head. Aromas of copper and toasted malts. Flavors of tobacco, bread crust and sweet toasted malts. Bigger and sweeter than expected but nice.

Golden-brown. Medium head. Toasty-biscuity nose. Very toasty on the palate, has a light fruitiness. Decent. Good balance.

On tap at Hoyne, pours a clear golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out bready malt and subtle dry English dry hopping. Flavour is quite dry, with bitter English dry hopping and bready malt in decent balance. Quite dry and astringent for the style. Decent.

Sparkling amber,lasting beige head.Light malt nose.Nutty, earthy malt profile, big, lasting very late bitter hop finish. Nice !!

Some citrus and some malt. Good balance, and good for style. Pours amber with good head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Tap at Drake.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Red amber color, just hazy, with small creamy head. The aroma is a bit too mild. The mouthfeel is lean, not too dry, the flavor has some caramel and a cereals character that is too strong; the final has some roasted nuts, but also a chicory-like bitterness.
An ok ESB, not very English IMO.
