A dark, sweetish, strong Ale with smooth fruity flavour & slight Liquorice after taste.
This beer was brewed in honour of the late William Mucklow who was the last commercial brewer in Bewdley and ceased brewing in 1912. He was reputed to have brewed a strong sweet dark mild (approx 6%+) and it was alleged to have been the second strongest mild in the country.

500ml bottle from the brewer. Pours brown mahogany, beige head, some fizzy character. Aroma of sweet deep malts, a little roasted, chocolate, caramel. Taste is the same with a liquorish note. Very moreish and delicious. Nice bitterness in the finish. Moderate body, moderate sparkly carbonation. A superb ale.

EU local swap 1/20, danke an minutemat. 10/12/12/12/8/12

500ml bottle from Appleyards. Pours a deep amber brown, good well-appointed beige head. Aroma of treacle, caramel malt, distant ginger. Taste explores these further, good treacle character with moist ginger cake notes on the finish, nice balanced richness of character with liquorice notes. Excellent dark mild.

500ml bottle on the Severn Valley Railway. Poured a clear ruby amber colour with a frothy, short-lived light tan head. The aroma is malt, red berry fruits, raisins, light hop. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a rich, smooth, fruity, light Christmas spicy, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 5/6/2018. Deep brown colour with some ruby undertones. Aroma of toffee and dark fruit, with a trace of toastiness. The flavour was more assertive with plenty of bready notes and ripe berry fruit, and a hint of sweetness in the finish. Very good.

Rochdale Beer Festival 2016. Deep red with a small glow. Has a sticky-sweet, but understated dark malts character. Quite tasty nevertheless.
