Bottle. A deep brown pour with a thin beige head. A rich musty chocolate and wood aroma. Medium bodied and very oaky with the rich chocolate and cocoa. Kind of interesting but middle of the road 3.4-3.5

12 oz bottle. Aroma comes leaping out of the gate with a wet sitting-in-the-sink-for-a-week dishrag note, then develops some nutty, earthy and roasty notes to combat this nastiness, leaving a decent but definitely not fantastic smelling beer. Pours dark brown with red highlights and a medium-sized beige head with good retention; sheets of lace are left on the glass all the way down to the bottom after the liquid disappears. Taste is lightly sweet, roasty and nutty, finishing with a robust bitterness. Palate is perfect for style, exhibiting a nice creaminess with taut carbonation and a medium body. I was expecting much less from this, given a lot of the brewery’s recent output, and that initial terrible aroma note. It ended up being a quaffable and perfectly serviceable brown ale.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and a very dry crusty bready quality. Flavour is along the same lines, showcasing toasted malt, crusty bread and a nice pungent hop character providing great balance. Really quite nice - better than the average would have you believe.

Bottle from Albertsons. Nice looking pour, dark, but clear brown, with small silky head. Aroma seems to be a no-show, not bad, just not there. Taste is very light toasted malts, mild finish, seems watery. One of the first disappointing beers from No-Li.

Draft - Light hops and Amber malts. Deep, dark maroon with a light beige head. Sweet nice hops and light Amber malts. Much lighter and happier than the color would suggest.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Brown color, apparently cloudy, with small head. A lot of orange peel in the aroma, and flavor; the body is not weak, but on the dry side; the flavor of dark malts is rather anonymous, and gets a bit roasty in the final; it has a light minty trace; ordinary bitterness.
Is this supposed to be a "spiced" zesty winter Ale? Maybe use a stronger base to warm the soul; it’s an OK beer, nothing I would long for though.
