A wee heavy for whisky lovers.

Why 'triple scotch'? We start with a wee heavy base, full of deep caramel flavors developed in the kettle. Specialty UK malts give us a classic scotch ale profile, toasty and subtly fruity like a good Highland. Finally, barrel-smoked malt lends the body a touch of soft oak and Speyside casks.

The result is cool in the glass and warm in the throat, and as close to a pint of whisky as we've found.

Draft at the Gravity Brewing taproom, Budapest. Poured almost black in colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is light roasty, light oaky, herbal. The flavour is light bitter, with a smooth, somewhat rich, earthy, light oaky, roasty, light warm alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. The commercial description really talks it up but the beer fails to deliver.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours surprisingly dark brown, almost black, with an off-white head. Nose is caramel, booze and nail polish. Taste is sweet malts, mainly caramel and bread and booze and hints of acetone. Closes with a boozy finish, has a light to medium body and soft carbonation. Meh.

On tap at the brewpub. Blackish coloured, small off-white head, malty caramel nose. Sweet malty (light roasted), caramel, dried fruits and alcohol with spicy touch in the finish. Bit too sweet.
