Rauchbier Lager just in time for late winter. Amber in color with a smooth yet pronounced smoked character from the cherrywood and beechwood smoked barley in the grain bill. Topped with a fluffy natural carbonation. We essentially took our Deathless Märzen recipe, subbed some base malt out for smoked malt, switched up the yeast and hops and this is the result. Try a mug of this to warm your soul right up.

Panda, courtesy of SHIG, pours with a clear brown copper colored body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up moderate smooth smokiness that brings up just a slice or two of smoked bacon followed by a thin cloud of caramel to crystal maltiness. The taste delivers a pleasing level of smoky goodness, where too often brewers dumb it down and come up short. Smooth moderate smokiness mingles with mildly sweet notes of caramel malts flowing into a growing highly roasted maltiness. Solid offering that delivers the smoky goodness I crave.

Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 14/03/24. Chestnut brown with a light beige cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is smoked malts, burnt toffee, biscuit crumbs, stewed fruits, grains. Taste comprises light bonfire, bitter sweet elements, burnt sugar, brown bread crust, smoked malts, meaty edge. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close. Solid well balanced rauchbier.

Can: Poured a caramel orange with a off white head. Aroma is peaty, smokey, bacon, medicinal. Taste is smokey, malty, meaty, light hints of sweetness that gives it depth.
