Cask at the Maypole, Cambridge. It pours darkest ruby-brown with a bubbly beige head. The nose is tangy berry, jam, toast, treacle, treacle and somewhat vinous notes. The taste is fruity, red berry, jam, some acidity, light bitterness, red grape skin, raspberry pips and wood with a dry, fruity finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice fruity-vinous aspect. Cask at the Maypole, Cambridge. Very dark brown, almost opaque. Foamy beige head. Light aroma of milk chocolate and raisins. Taste is sweet and malty with some underlying sourness. Sharp bitterness in the finish. Good enough in its own way but it doesn’t really work as well as I’d hoped. Too much alcohol for so little impact. I’d prefer a low ABV mild or a 6.5% APA but that’s me. Still worth trying.
