Wetherspoon 2025 Autumn Beer Festival. Ale#20 of 26 untried possibilities at the fest. Dark clear brown colour. Certainly a mild in design, but its strength makes it a dense slow sipper and the alcohol is noticeable as a light sweetness impacting on taste.

A pretty decent mild. Not a beauty but it ticks the boxes. Lightly sweet dark malts, a hint of burnt caramel, prunes, dark berries, suggestion of licorice. OK condition. OK balance. Drinks fine.

8/10/2025. Cask at wetherspoon beer festival, at Cricketers, Ipswich. Lovely pour. Starts quite full on with liquorice/aniseed. This mellows to a very acceptable level. Malty, toffee, chocolate, dark fruits alongside. Quite full bodied, smooth, soft carbonation. Very flavoursome. Drying finish. Cut above the average Elgoods offering. I liked it but imagine it is a “Marmite” beer on opinions.

Cask at Square Bottle, Chester. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly roasted malts with some hints of alcohol. In the mouth it is sweet but with some underlying bitterness. Flavour is roasted malts, liquorice, alcoholic strength and a fair dollop of coffee. Finish is decidedly dry and very boozy. This is decent enough but alcohol makes it seem rough and ready.

[Cask at the Basingstoke Beer Festival 2025 at 6.5% ABV.] A glossy chocolate brown pour with a loose cream coloured head; aroma of chocolate and roasted grains; smooth and full bodied with a roasted malt taste with a little coffee and chocolate; and a light bitterness and some obvious alcohol to finish. Very tasty.
