The fourth one in Oedipus' Lifeform series, a Berliner Weisse with woodruff – actual woodruff rather than the sugary Waldmeistersyrup traditionally added to Berliner Weisse in Germany, so a free interpretation of an old European tradition, in a way. Collab with France’s Mont Salève apparently, from a bottle at Kantien, thanks Goedele for sharing. Very loosely structured, wafer-thin, off-white, bubbly head needing forcing to form a thin and open moussy layer but eventually completely disappearing, over a misty straw blonde beer with ochre hue. Aroma breathes a lot of woodruff but more dried woodruff flowers than woodruff leaves, reminiscent of tofu, as is often the case in artisanal beers made with real flowers (such as elderblossom or meadowsweet), aromatically hovering over impressions of bread crumbs, lime juice, gypsum, gherkin, camomile, pear peel, chalk, stale sweat. Crisp and softly sour in the mouth, sedate lactic acidity stretching throughout the palate, mildly drying; lime, unripe banana and cucumber notes in the onset with a dash of pineapple sweetness underneath. Medium carbonation, with refreshing lime-like lactic sourness continuing, bready and somewhat quorn-like malt base, soft and sweetish underneath the crisp sourness; finish adds a lot of retronasal dried woodruff flower aroma as well as a notably chalky and gypsum-like flavour that lingers afterwards, while hop bitterness, as required in this style, remains practically absent. Very refreshing, crisp and elegant, almost classic interpretation of the style, made less classic by the addition of the woodruff flowers, lending it a ‘fleshy’ and very ‘blossomy’ character. Enjoyed it, but could do with more head stability….

Helder geel bier zonder schuim. Smaak is licht fruitig zuur en kruidig met iets van citrus, bloemen en het lievevrouwebedstro wat er volgens het etiket in verwerkt is. Niet onaardig.

Bottle at Tilt Brum; clear yellow pour with a thin white film of a head, aroma has floral action, taste is slightly sour with, light citrus.

Draught @ BeerTemple, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 250, Amsterdam, Netherlands 1012 RR. [ As Oedipus / Mont Salève Planet Oedipus Lifeform No. 4 - PO17-MS-LVBS ].Unclear matt medium orange yellow colour with virtually no head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, sweet malt, coconut - cinnamon, tart, woodruff (skovmærke) - newly mown hay - herbs. Flavor is moderate sweet and light light acidic with a long duration, tart, coconut - spicy, pale malt, herbs - newly mown hay. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. 0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', bottled in August 2017. Minimally hazy, golden yellow with a thin, fluffy, quickly diminishing, white layer. Sourish, quite fruity and slightly herbal aroma of lemon, woodruff and a touch of rhubarb. Moderately sour, minimally sweetish, quite fruity and slightly herbal taste of lemon, woodruff, wheat and a touch of honey, followed by a short, moderately tart, slightly herbal and quite dry finish. Thin to medium body, slightly astringent and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Quite nice, well-balanced (very different from other Oedipus sours) and refreshing with a nice touch of woodruff that is not artificial at all.

Sampled from draft @ BAF 2017. Hazy pale yellow color. Aroma's; sour, fruity. Retronasal it's fruity, light sour. Flavor is light sour, light sweet. Light bodied.

Thank you for sharing! Sampled draft @ BAF 2017. Golden orange juice, hazy, touch ugly. Massive floral, rhubarb, lemonade nose, sweet. Weird taste flowers, rhubarb, sugar, spice, lemonade, lime. Like a strange lemonade, I liked it.

Tap at BAF 2017. Bit hazy light golden. Lots of woodruff indeed, light sour grains, vanilla, Amaretto, soft minerals, weird exotic alien fruits, almonds. Medium sweet and light sour and bitter. Medium bodied.
