This very special dark ale has been brewed in small batches and then matured in hand-selected, first-fill bourbon casks to give it its rich, rounded character.

Notes of brown sugar, orange oil and coconut are complemented by an earthy freshness from the hops, and the 30 days the beer's spent in oak have ensured a satisfyingly smooth finish.

Malt: I & G ale malt, crystal malt, amber malt, roasted barely
Hops: Super styrian
Maturation: 30 days in first-fill American bourbon barrels

Medium beige head. Nearly opaque black body shows traces of red. Roasty earthy vanilla aroma with faint fruity notes. Sweet roasty vanilla taste with spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, smooth, low carbonation mouthfeel. Sweetish roasty powdery earthy aftertaste with vanilla notes. Interesting and unusual. Harmonic and very drinkable, as usual from I&G. (0.33l bottle, from wine monopoly, Strømmen.)

330ml bottle from B&M Bargains, Darlington. Reddish amber-brown colour, tan foam head and aroma of bready malt, with metallic hop, oak, chocolate & coffee notes. Taste is malty, bready, sweetish, bourbon, with fruity orange hop, metallic hints, wood, oaky and some coffee, roast bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonatiom, dry roasty nutty bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle, Wine Warehouse. Bottled as Bourbon Aged Dark Ale. Pours brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of dust, roasted coffee. Flavor is mildly sweet up front, with molasses notes, followed by peat, earth, caramel, brown leaves, toffee. Fine, nothing special.

Bottle from Corti Bros. Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is dark malt with a bourbon note. Light note. Med body or so. Flavor is somewhat smoky, woody, dark malt, bourbon notes, brown sugar. Lots of little things. It’s not a strong flavor impact, but it’s fun and relatively gentle. I almost always like these I&G ales. This one has a nice finish that’s almost a bitter equivalent.

I remember absolutely loving this beer before rating it. Now I am less sure (maybe drunk at wrong time). Still a lovely beer with defnite whisky notes. Tastes like a good old sip of a bourbon bar.

330 ml bottle into snifter, best before 5/2017. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, apple, light pepper, and oak/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, bourbon/oak, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, apple, light pepper, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, brown bread, raisin, plum, apple, light pepper, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, bourbon/oak, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slight dryness from oak spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly silky/sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.4%. Overall this is a great bourbon/oak aged scotch ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, bourbon/oak, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. With this not being truly barrel aged, the oak is fairly strong over the bourbon; but you still get a nice presence of both. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottled. From Systembolaget. Poured almost black in color with a thin brown head. Toffeeish, caramel, woody aroma. Noticeable house flavor for sure. Vanilla, toffee, fudge, sweetness. Some Bourbon notes as well.
