This very special dark ale has been brewed in small batches and then matured in hand-selected, first-fill bourbon casks to give it its rich, rounded character.
Notes of brown sugar, orange oil and coconut are complemented by an earthy freshness from the hops, and the 30 days the beer's spent in oak have ensured a satisfyingly smooth finish.
Malt: I & G ale malt, crystal malt, amber malt, roasted barely
Hops: Super styrian
Maturation: 30 days in first-fill American bourbon barrels

Poured from 330mL bottle. Dark brown with tan head. Aroma of a light I&G original overlaced with dominant bourbon notes. Flavour of wood and caramel, mild bourbon. Good combo though slightly cloying.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Red-brown with a negligible head and a medium fizz. Alcohol and chocolate on the nose. Choc full of chocolate on drinking; very sweet with lots of brown sugar. Spice develops with I&G’s trademark oak & vanilla coming through. There’s whisky and a hint of smoke in the finish. It’s sweet throughout and I can understand why some raters have disliked it. But there’s depth and complexity to it too, and as a pudding or late evening beer it’s really rather enjoyable.

Bottle - Dark fruit, lots of raisin and light woody cinnamon notes. Purple brown with no head. Lots of raisin and plum with not much depth or interesting flavors. Quite juice like and no body. Disappointing.

Bottle bought in BC Liquor store. Non-intense aroma with vanilla, some grass and slight alcohol notes. Same notes of vanilla and brown sugar in sweety taste. That’s it. Soft weak aftertaste with vanilla notes. Just a mediocre beer, that doesn’t cost its’ money at all. No reason to put it to a box and sell like an exclusive beer.

330ml bottle. (As Bourbon Dark Ale) Pours a clear brown with a red hue and a large, frothy, long lasting, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, dried fruit, vanilla, bourbon and oak. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, dried fruit, brown sugar, vanilla and oak with a dry, bourbon finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle split at the Bespin cloud system, thanks to Bropey, 21/01/16. Rdark chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is light maple syrup, bourbon infuse, pencil lead, airy malt, toffee, light perfume. Taste comprises watered down JD and coke, toffee, light malt, hint of dark fruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Paul. Pours clear red-brown with a frothy tan head. The nose holds toasty caramel, dried berries, vanilla. Heavy sweet flavor with just a kick of peat, more sugary caramel, bread, figs. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary finish, with notes of lightly toasted bread, lots of toffee and caramel, almost no bitterness, hints of alcohol, brown sugar, dried fruits, berries. A bit cloying, but not bad.

Bottle shared at LKS. It pours darkest ruby with a thick light tan head. The nose is sweet malty action, cherry cola, vanilla, dull smoke and meats. The taste is pretty sweet, syrupy, sticky, caramel, vanilla, cola, wood, dark fruits, cake and some alcohol warmth with a sweetish finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Way too sweet for the likes of me. Not horrific, but not good either.
