This very special dark ale has been brewed in small batches and then matured in hand-selected, first-fill bourbon casks to give it its rich, rounded character.
Notes of brown sugar, orange oil and coconut are complemented by an earthy freshness from the hops, and the 30 days the beer's spent in oak have ensured a satisfyingly smooth finish.
Malt: I & G ale malt, crystal malt, amber malt, roasted barely
Hops: Super styrian
Maturation: 30 days in first-fill American bourbon barrels

33cl bottle from Sainsbury’s, Bracknell. A cola coloured pour with a trace of white head; maltyaroma with some vanilla and mustiness from the casks; smooth with a similar taste; and a sweet vanilla finish.

Bottle. Pours hazy dark ruby with stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, raisins, vanilla and yeast. Sweetish, malty and fruity flavour with nites of roast and vanilla and touches of hops. Barrellike and slightly estery aftertaste. Okay but quite sweet.

This dark ale poured a deep dark Amber colour with a creamy, soapy head. Scents include bourbon, smoke and caramel. First swig was smooth and roasty with flavours of bourbon and caramel. Finish is roasty and sweet.

As ’Bourbon Dark Ale’ and with a light brown lable. Clear deep amber - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry, light fine carbonation. Sweetish but thin dark malts. Touches of sweetish molasses, dark chocolate and esters. Mild but slightly spicy dark fruits. It’s thin and sweet but was interesting enough.

Part of their Holiday Pack for this year. Pours a darker brown, copper colour with deep amber highlights. Light-beige creamy head, decent retention and some nice full lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, smokiness, dark fruits, some hops and hints of nuttiness. The bourbon is a little more present in the taste giving some coconut notes and lots of sweetness in the finish. Flavours of rich dark fruits and caramel malts. Some good hoppiness as well. Pretty nice dark ale, but a little too sweet to have more.

Flaske 330ml fra Systembolaget Luleå - Storheden. Drukket i Skibotn 18 Aug 15. Dyp dyp mørk rød. Egentlig svart. Middels høyt skum som flater fort ut. Forsiktig maltaroma. Smaken litt malt med en svak syrlighet. En kan ane litt søt whisky i ettersmaken.
