Clwyd Gold has an abv of 3.5% and an 'old fashioned' ruby colour. The smooth, full malt / biscuity palate is balanced nicely by the mid range bitterness which makes Clwyd Gold especially popular in North Wales.

29/1/2025. Cask at Ye Hole In Ye Wall, Liverpool. Pours clear deep ruby amber with a small creamy off-white head. Good pour. Aroma is fruity, berries, hedgerow, malty, caramel, biscuit. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, touch of tart. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Not quite what I expected from the name but it was fair enough.

Cask at the Sandbar (Courier tap), Manchester, 26/01/24. Deep amber with a good sized lasting just off white cap. Nose is straw, light biscuit, grains, stewed fruits. Taste comprises biscuit, light mineral notes, straw, hedgerow, dull fruits, faint smoke ... likely unintentional. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a light bitter edge. Passable cask affair.

Cask at Magnet, Stockport. Pours a hazy bitter brown with a small off-white head and good lacing. [ Pumpclip describes it as a “ruby red ale” – which it definitely isn’t ! ] Aroma is mainly malts. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy. Initially malts dominate, but these give way later to some bitterness and nuts. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. It’d OK, butr a bit boring to be honest.
