A new NE IPA, festooned with grapefruits!

We brewed a nice 5.6% abv hazy IPA, adding the zest and pulp from 80 ruby grapefruits in the coolship, giving an orange-reddish hued beer. Now, as you know, we don't add concentrated or artificial ingredients here at SMOD, so this isn't a grapefruit-bomb. But it's a lovely fruity IPA in which the real fruit is complimented by some zesty hops: Mosaic, Waimea and Amarillo.

Hope it keeps you cool through the hot British summer! I'm writing this with the sun out, you'll probably read it in the rain. Oh well!

Cheers everyone!

Panda at home, thanks to Fergus, 16/08/21. Almost clear golden blonde with a decent white head. Nose is melon, grass, light yeast esters, orange peel, light herb, papaya. Taste comprises bubblegum, light candied fruits, orange peel, mellow yeast, herb, grass, soft malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow hop bitterness. Decent flavoursome pale with a Belgian twist.

Can at home picked up from HOTM. 6.2% with grapefruit zest. A mostly clear bright golden coloured pour with a frothy white cap. Aroma is delicate belgian yeasty notes, chamomile, soft wheat, creamy, grapefruit zest, some grass, spicy yeast notes. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rounded, pale grains, bready, zesty grapefruit. Palate is semi sweet, soft, light hop resin, frothy airy carbonation. Nice spicy finish.

Can at home in Hackney - sourced from All Good Beer. Mild gusher. Pours unclear orange-gold with a billowing, foamy white head head. Light to medium sweet flavour with bready malts, biscuits, citrus fruits, tangerine. Light to medium bodied with delicate carbonation. Nicely rounded finish, more pale bread, tangerine, mild rindy bitterness, soft zesty notes, biscuity malts. Great stuff overall, nice depth of flavour.

Can, picked up at the brewery. Pretty thick, dark orange gold. Off white head is beautifully shiny, slick, and fully lasting and lacing. Nose has fresh squeezed grapefruit. Peach and vanilla smoothie thing. Some sticky pine. It’s all here. Taste is juicy and sweet, with a robust pithy bitterness. Medium body is smooth and slightly slick. Foamy carbonation. Lingering grapefruit bitterness to finish. Just ridiculously well put together.
