Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy blond color. Mildly fruity and tart, a bit too astringent in the final.
Not too bad.

Hazy, pale. Smells like kettle sour with a fair bit of peachy fruitiness. Tart, but a bit harsh. Some fruitiness, comes from the hops, but not best in class.

Bottle - Light sour and some aspirin. Gloudy gold with a decent white head. Light soured peanuts and grains.

330mL bottle, pours a hazy dull orange with a small white head. Aroma is quite earthy, light tartness and bready notes. Flavour is earthy and spicy, with tart citrus, earthy and spicy notes, and bizarre grainy notes. Earthy and almost garbage-like on the finish. Not horrendous, but it's okay.

One of these new Swedish craft breweries offering a dry-hopped sour. Quite strong gusher after about one second after removing the cap. Most of the carbon dioxide flees with it, as it takes quite a bit of forcing to create a loose, egg-white head, quickly fizzing away like the head on a glass of Coca Cola, leaving barely more than a wafer thin moussy edge and eventually disappearing completely; completely cloudy peach blonde with murky ochre-ish hue, looking like some or other organic juice health fanatics would consume. Not very strong aroma of old spoiled lemons, cooked rhubarb, milk gone sour, sourdough, unripe peach, gypsum, sorrel leaves, gooseberry juice, potato starch, pickled pearl onions, bread crumbs, roll herring, old paper and a whiff of armpit sweat; more floral hop notes with sediment added. Crisp, immediately sour onset, a bit lemony but not harhsly puckering, very lactic as in sour milk, drying the palate along with estery fruitiness, consisting of a small pear- and peach-like sweetish core thickly surrounded by unripe plum- and gooseberry-like sourness which blends with the basic lactic sourness; carbonation, as is to be expected seen the lack of head retention, remains understated, so that the mouthfeel is on the flat and watery side. Bready pale malt sweetish core, the breadiness eventually taken over by the yeast, resulting in a somewhat starchy feeling; the lactic dryness is accompanied by a hop bitter note in the end, of a rather earthy and herbal character. It remains subtle, though, leaving the finish thin and a bit watery, also because the lactic dryness fades a bit in the end and is eventually superseded by powdery yeastiness; a chalky aspect remains in the end and the hop bitterness lingers a bit after swallowing. Not a great success, I’m afraid; probably kettle soured but there is more experience and knowledge to be acquired for these new Scandinavian breweries to come up with really game-changing sours the way they have with other styles (stout in particular). There are some papery off-flavours going on, the lactic effect is a bit superficial and not fully developed and the dry-hopping does not add that much apart from a bitterish end note that clashes a bit with the sourness; this beer basically goes from nowhere to nowhere, ending in a forgettably thin and watery finish. The gushing and loss of gas (and therefore head and structure) do not help either. Nothing truly offensive here, but needs a lot of finetuning, that much is clear.

Bottle, 5.2%. Sour aroma, lactic acid, perhaps also malic acid, definitely fruity. Cloudy pale colour. Small frothy white head. The flavour is also a little fruity, but has a nice tannic and faintly vingary touch. Not very sour, but nice and flavourful. Mild funky finish.

Bottle. Pours hazy pale straw with airy white head. Vinous aroma with notes of yeast and cheese bacteria and touches of hops. Sour flavour with estery notes and malty touches, complemented by bitter, hoppy notes. Vinous and estery aftertaste. Decent but a little watery.
