Cask at the Pup and Duckling, Solihull. Poured almost black, with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, light caramel. The flavour is moderate to light sweet and liqourice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, chocolate, light tart red berry fruit palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.

500ml bottle from Craft & Berry. Gluten Free. Black colour, beige foam head leaving alittle lacing and aroma of roast malt, meaty, ashy, chocolate & coffee. Taste is roasty, malty, dried fruits, chocolate, coffee, with ashy earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roasted bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Cask at Hogshead, Wolverhampton Pours pretty much completely black with a small beige head. Chocolate and liquorice in the nose. Sweet and creamy in the mouth with the strongest taste being damsons, and some hops in the background. A slightly bitter finish to round things off. Pleasant enough, but doesn’t pull any trees up.

25/1/2019. Cask at the 10th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. Pours clear, almost black with a small bubbly tan coloured head. Aroma of chocolate, malt, liquorice, ash and coffee. Moderate sweetness and medium roasted bitterness. Medium body, slight creamy texture, average to soft carbonation. Chocolatey, malty, smooth, but slightly watery finish. Decent brew.

Handpull cask from the Newshouse, Nottingham. Liquorice black with a ring of beige head. Bitter chocolate and tar liquorice on the nose. Tastes sweet with suggestions of plum, leading to light stone fruit hop notes in the finish. Aftertaste gives me liquorice, forest floor, woodsmoke, a note of cooked cabbage. Oily and flat, but this works with a cask stout. More complex than I'd have expected.
