German Porter

The beer is brewed in accordance with the Beer Purity Law, the Reinheitsgebot, meaning it could only use malted barley, hops, yeast, and water. The Pilsner malt still shines through all the de-husked black malt, giving it a lot of colour, some chocolate and coffee notes without being astringent. The lager yeast gives the beer a cleaner less fruity aroma than its English counterpart. The beer is more like a Schwarzbier (black lager) than an English Porter.

Malts: Pilsen Malt, Horton Ridge Munich, Munich II, Carafa III special

Hops: Magnum

Yeast: German Lager

Dark brown pour small white head. Nice cocoa aroma with a soft coffee, and chocolate milk. Thin mouth feel, soft carb. Low bitterness, kinda watery, not bad. Not great.

Pour from a can. Pours dark brown with beige head. Aroma is smoky with a touch of cocoa and toasted malt. Flavour is mainly dry roasted malt; pretty earthy with a bit od cocoa. Decent dry porter.

Medium brown with a thin head. Some cocoa up front, fairly nutty, a bit of sweetness up front and a touch of dryness in the finish.

473mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out smoky leather, dry wood, toasted malt, and earthy notes. Flavour is very dry and bitter, with earthy notes, a little leather, and dry roast. A little harsh and bitter, but it's quite pleasant overall.
