Archetype is a Czech-style pale lager that echoes the flavour profile of the world’s first pale or “golden” lager brewed in the city of Plzeň in the Czechia back in 1842. 4oz pour at The Magnet. Pours mostly clear gold with an off-white head. Dry grass and a warm pale malt on the nose. Flavour has dry, herbal grass, some straw, and biscuit malts. Nice hoppy bite. Not as clean and crisp as Zephry, but still very well done.

473 ml can. Pours a pale gold with moderate head. Aromas of candied lemon, sulphur and cereal with some floral notes. Flavors follow same but also bring out grass and perfume. The latter makes this different and interesting when really cold. Quite crisp. Nice

Apr 15, 2026 (7/3/7/3/15=3.5): Poured from the tap @ 4W Beachhouse. Clear gold with white head. Light bread crusts, clean, light floral bittering hops in the background.
Mar 20, 2023 (7/4/6/3/14=3.4): Poured from 473mL can (from FW beer club). Clear blonde gold with small white head. Cracker malt, mild grassy hops, clean and crisp. Some celery notes as it warms.

Pale blond colour, clean. The aroma is mild, but the hop is there, grassy. Dry mouthfeel, nice combination of crackery malt flavour and noble hops, grassy and spicy, with robust bitterness. Very good.

473mL can, pours a clear golden blonde with a small white head. Nose is crisp and vibrant, with grassy hops, crisp crackery malt, and straw. Flavour is clean and fresh, with fresh grassiness, crisp biscuity malt, and straw. Not as biting, crisp or hoppy as I'd hoped for, but it's very clean and fresh. Hits the spot, despite being slightly underwhelming.

2022 edition: Gold, slight haze, thick head. Not much aroma, bready pale malt. Ok, this is both sweet and buttery. Not saying you can’t go that direction but this is a lot of diacetyl, more than what I would consider ok in pilsner (Urquell-level is my cut off). There isn’t much hop character, which sucks because the malt base needs herbaceous hop. This misses. Feels like after making this very well a few years ago they tried playing with fire and got burned. Just leave the diacetyl out of it. 6 4 5 2 11 = 2.8 2019 edition: Dark gold, not much head. Nice deep saaz aroma and flavour with a lot of rich pale malts. Oh I like this. hearty bitterness and everything. 8 4 8 4 16 = 4.0
