Named after our fave French backcountry ski town, LaGrave’s rare yeast produces a rocky head releasing aromas of crusty bread and earthy spices. Our Triple Golden Ale carves out flavors of ripe pear, straw and black pepper with a dry, champagne powder finish.

Pour is a cloudy blond with a large white head. Aroma is a neutral malt with a little white grape not much of a yeast ester. Flavor is a little estery funk with some white grape and finishes very dry. This was lacking a bit of oomph. Not a big yeast ester or that creamy mouthfeel from Belgian triples. Worth a try for $5 a corked bottle but not one of the better triples I've ever had.

Aromas are malt, spice, yeast and maybe a bit of white wine. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose and in the Belgian triple tradition but mild. A little bit more sweet than bitter and carbonic tang. Good body and excellent carbonation. Decent but a little pretentious.

Bottle Good carbonation but a surprisingly light tripel. Not a lot of flavor and the palate seems thin. Drinkable but not bringing much to enjoy. --- Beer merged from original tick of LaGrave on 23 Nov 2024 at 16:57 - Score: 6

Bottle pour from Total Wine & More, Burlington. It's a hazy gold-light brown with nice sparkle, ring of off-white head and no lacing. Aroma is strong dank funk, mix of sweet and tart fruit, Belgian yeast, hint of pepper. Taste is subtle sweet/tart fruit, straw, earth, yeast, late bread crust. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, average-to-lively carbonation and crisp, dry finish as taste. Overall, they were going for high carbonation--so they nailed it!--but I didn't love it. Also, nailed the finish. Aroma and taste were non-specific so didn't get all the advertised flavors. Just OK.

375 ml corked and caged bottle. Hazy honey gold color. Small foamy white head. Sweet fruity malt nose has yeasty notes. Flavor is more of the same, with honeyish notes. Dry champagne-like finish. Belgian in style, yet indistinctive.
