The base of this blend is our award winning Woolly Bugger Barley Wine aged 9 months in Baker’s bourbon barrels. It was then blended with additional Barley Wine and Abbey Quad to become Monolith. It features a constantly evolving series of flavours, folding in on itself and revealing delicate new complexities with each sip. Toffee, treacle, and candied apples all emerge, with raisins, plums, and myriad other flavours dancing on the edge of perception. It displays a moderate bitterness, subtle heat, and rich, alluring aroma.

Can. Amber-brown colour, sedimented. Thin head. On the nose, this has a lot of bourbon of course, rich malts and a big deep fruitiness I'd expect from Howe Sound. Mincemeat tart kind of stuff. Soft and smooth. Big body. Big alcohol, but the malts are gentle, the fruits are just as complex but lent some vanillin for roundness. The bourbon might dominate the nose but it's well-integrated on the palate. You know it's massive but at the same time, you want to drink on this. It would be dangerous if I wasn't at home with a can.

2022-08-13, can from Jak's, Parkcrest, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Dark brown, looks dirty. Good treacle and caramel flavour, nutty; it doesn't have the malt richness of the best barley wines, and the finish is a bit short; strong alcohol warmth.
Good effort.

Dark amber colour. Slightly more chocolatey than the average Barley Wine, but it lacks depth, and the alcohol is fairly strong; as it goes, it's getting thinner, boozier, less complex by the sip.
Ok beer.

473 ml can. Pours a dark reddish brown with light head. Aromas of brown sugary syrup/treacle, raisins, sweet bourbon, caramel and bready malts. Flavors of sweet toasted malts, raisins, candi sugar, bread crust and just a bit of bittering hops. Quite sweet but still had an edge worthy of aging. Very good, as expected!

473mL can, pours a deep dark mahogany / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out the bourbon barrels, dried dark fruits, and toffee. Flavour is rich, with lots of dark dried fruits, subtle bourbon and bready toffee. Rich and fruity. The bourbon is only subtle, accentuating the fruitiness. Excellent.
